Medical students who volunteer as part of Teddy Bear Hospital have now taken their final sessions as Teddy Bear Doctors before the summer break. School children from across Tyneside were visited by the doctors as part of an annual campaign to raise awareness of health issues with children. This year’s sessions were enhanced by support from Newcastle based graphic designers and brand specialists Warm who produced Teddy First Aid Kits for kids, including height charts, coloring diagrams and ‘how to’ games. The programme has been running from the autumn to rave reviews from school kids and parents alike.
“Inviting the children to bring their teddies along who may have an ailment is a great way to get them thinking about being healthy and for trainee medical students it is a hugely important way for us to gain hands on practice of working with kids and helping them be less fearful of visiting the doctor’s” says Ally Fowles, organizer of this year’s programme.
Andy Taylor from Warm said “It has been a great for us to see the work of the Medical School first hand and a pleasure to undertake such a worthwhile project under our CSR scheme Warm Communities”
James Johnston from Newcastle University said “We are incredibly proud of our medics for venturing out into the community and teach children about important issues such as hand washing, eating greens and being safe around the home. Warm have done a splendid job supporting this project and we are proud to have them as Partners for Health”.
Warm have worked closely across numerous departments and research projects within Newcastle University for the past three years and see their CSR programme as an intrinsic part of the company.
