Single-topic Rankings

Find out Newcastle's position in the main single-topic rankings. Focusing on one metric, they are typically more reliable than the popular compound rankings.

Research Excellence Framework (REF)

The REF is a national exercise to evaluate research quality. Submissions from each subject area are given a rank which informs the allocation of quality weighted research funding (QR) received from the funding council.

The National Student Survey (NSS)

The NSS is a survey of all final year degree students. The survey assesses students' opinions of the quality of their degree programmes. Seven different scores are published including an overall satisfaction mark.

The NSS is conducted by IPSOS MORI, on behalf of the funding councils of the UK. The results can be viewed with other programme data on the Unistats website.

International Student Barometer

The International Student Barometer is an independent, confidential feedback process, tracking the decision-making, perceptions, expectations and experiences of students studying outside their home country.

Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE)

The DLHE is a survey which collects information on what leavers from higher education programmes are doing six months after graduating (employed, engaged in further study and so on).
