At Newcastle, we aim to admit the brightest and best students, regardless of background. Our extensive work with schools and colleges throughout the UK aims to support students' access to high quality information, advice and guidance about higher education. As a University, we are also committed to conducting an active programme of raising aspirations and widening participation.
In the North East and northern UK region, we actively work in partnership with state schools and colleges to provide innovative, exciting and relevant events and activities, using our team of over 100 trained Student Ambassadors. We also provide subject resources and activities for schools and colleges.
PARTNERS is our nationally-recognised widening participation scheme with 113 schools and colleges in the North East, Cumbria and northern region.
Our Graduate Ambassador Scheme employs recent graduates to provide interactive talks and activities to 160 schools and colleges in Yorkshire, Humberside and the North West, so that potential students can find out what it's really like to study here.
Through the Career Development Module, student tutors work alongside teachers in over 140 North East schools and colleges, to support young people in their studies and to help them find out more about university. In 2010, over 230 students worked with 11,500 learners
Nationally, Newcastle University is leading the Realising Opportunities scheme. This aims to encourage talented students from across the UK to apply to research-intensive universities. Twelve leading universities are involved in the scheme, which builds upon our collective experience of widening participation.
Around 20% of our undergraduate and postgraduate students are international students, from over 100 countries. We attend and organise events all around the world for potential students.
