The Changing Age campaign is the public face of the University's first societal challenge theme, launched in 2009, which focuses on ageing and health. Societal challenge themes are themes identified by the University as having global importance as well as particular regional relevance, and are areas in which we have the academic expertise, track record and critical mass to make a substantial contribution.
A major element of the campaign is the Newcastle Charter for Changing Age, which calls for a society in which people of all ages can live their lives to their fullest potential. Since its launch in March 2010, the Charter has attracted high-profile support from politicians, celebrities and age-related charities, as well as a groundswell of public support.
The leaders of all political parties are being called upon to support the Charter in order to create a society in which people of all ages can live their lives to their fullest potential.
The good news is that due to better science and healthcare, life expectancy is dramatically increasing. The key issue is how best we make the most of our lengthening lives by improving health and wellbeing.
