Summer Extensions

About

It is often possible to extend your contract over the summer. Summer extensions are offered on a first come, first served basis.

Your current room may not be available due to refurbishment works, summer maintenance or conference commitments and we will aim make you an alternative offer subject to availability.

If you have outstanding accommodation fees, you will not be allowed to extend your stay over the summer.  Make sure you've made your Term One and Term Two rent payments in full.

Undergraduates

We will be able to offer an extension in limited rooms until 24 August 2017.

Postgraduates

For postgraduate students, a small number of vacancies may be available in other postgraduate residences.

Non-Newcastle Students

If you are not currently a student living in University accommodation, you can book a stay with us over the summer.

Single Students

Find out how you can arrange to extend your stay over the summer.

This information is for contracts ending 18 June 2017.

As availability of accommodation is limited, priority bookings will be given to students whose studies continue into the summer period. We may request you to provide us with confirmation from your school department.

How to apply

You need to meet with an Accommodation Officer who will discuss your requirements and explain the available options to you. Visit the Accommodation Service on Level 2 of King’s Gate Building on any of the following dates:

Tuesday 21 March between 9.00 and 13.00

Tuesday 25 April between 13.00 and 17.00

Tuesday 9 May between 9.00 and 13.00

We'll prepare a summer extension contract for you to sign and explain the payment options.

Where you can stay

If you want an extension of seven days or less, we try to let you stay in your current room.

If you need an extension for more than seven days, you will need to move an en suite room at Park Terrace at a weekly cost of £125.37.

How long you can stay

The latest possible end date for summer extensions is 24 August 2017 and keys must be returned by 10.00 on the day your extension ends.

We will not be able to extend any bookings beyond 24 August 2017.

Your new contract

If you are moving from one University room to another, you will be given a contract for the new room commencing on Thursday 22 June 2017.

As your current contract ends on 18 June 2017, you will be able to remain in your existing room during the transitional period until your new room is ready.

During this time the Accommodation Service will contact you to confirm the date your new room will be available, you will be required to move within 24 hours of this notification.

Please be aware, you will need to pay additional accommodation charges for the transitional University accommodation in addition to the rent detailed in your new contract.

Castle Leazes, Marris House and Windsor Terrace

Due to summer conference commitments at these residences, your room will need to be vacated as early as possible.

If you have to move to a new room, you will be given priority move status. You'll be expected to move very quickly after the end of your academic contract, and we will contact you with details of your proposed move date.
