Payment by Direct Debit

If the booking is for the full academic year, all accommodation charges are normally payable by this method. Find out more on payment by Direct Debit and important payment collection dates.

You must have a current account with a UK clearing bank.

If your University contract is for a period of 38 weeks, you may choose one of two Direct Debit options:

• In seven equal monthly instalments from 1 November 2012 - 1 May 2013 inclusive
• In three variable termly instalments on
• 1 November 2012
• 1 February 2013
• 1 May 2013*

*Whilst your last payment for rent will be 1 May 2013 you should be aware that any fines or damage charges applied to your account after this date, will also be collected by direct debit during June or July. You will receive an Advance Payment Notice indicating the amount and payment date.

If your University contract is for a period of 49 weeks, you may choose one of two Direct Debit options:

• In nine equal monthly instalments from 1 November 2012 - 1 July 2013 inclusive
• In four variable termly instalments on
• 1 November 2012
• 1 February 2013
• 1 May 2013
• 1 July 2013

Students staying on for a further year in University accommodation will have the option of paying monthly/termly and should refer to their contract.

Students with a 12 months NUstudenthomes contract will have the option of 10 equal monthly instalments/four termly instalments

You should complete a Direct Debit instruction online or you may download a PDF version of the Direct Debit Mandate (PDF 59KB) and return it to the Accommodation Service.

If there are insufficient funds in your account on the due date, you will be charged a late fee of £25 and your bank will also charge you.

Important Payment Collection Dates

If you have accepted your accommodation and have chosen to pay in instalments you will be sent a Direct Debit Advance payment Notice confirming the payment amounts and dates payments will be collected.

Payments are collected on the first of the month.

International Students

The University is aware that most international students will not be able to open a sterling bank account until they arrive in the UK. If you decide to choose the Direct Debit option, please retain the form and return it completed to the Accommodation Service within seven days of your arrival at the University.
