Security
Many students will have returned from Christmas vacation with gifts galore. PC Al Gibson, Campus Police Officer would like students to be more vigilant at this time of year and recommends you take more care with your belongings.
Unfortunately, thieves do target student residences but by taking sensible precautions you can do much to prevent crime. Please follow these simple guidelines which have been drawn up in conjunction with Northumbria Police:
- Always close and lock your windows and door when you are away from your room or flat even if it is just for a few minutes
- Never wedge doors open
- Property mark your possessions - property marking pens are available from your site reception
- Don’t let anybody you don’t know into your block or flat. All University staff and contractors working on our behalf carry identification
- If you do see anybody acting suspiciously contact the Police and, if you can, your site reception
- Please don’t leave your valuables where they can be seen from outside your room
- University Flats and Henderson Hall receive regular patrols from Estates Security. They can be contacted on 0191 222 6817, 24 hours a day or by using the telephone help points on most sites
- Never label your keys with your address and never put your keys in a bag that contains anything with your address on wherever possible. Inform your site reception straight away if you loose your keys and never give your keys to anyone else
Finally please note that leafleting and fly posting are prohibited on our sites and we will seek to prevent this through legal means if necessary. Don’t admit people bearing leaflets into your block or hall and more importantly don’t hand out the leaflets yourself !
