The University can offer a range of accommodation to meet varying individual requirements.
If you have a specific requirement for a particular type of room or location for reasons relating to a medical condition, disability (including any hidden disability) or other circumstances, you must provide this information within your online Accommodation Application. If you do not provide this information, then your condition cannot be taken into account when allocating you a room. It is important that you provide the fullest possible details of your requirements as we would like to meet your needs as closely as possible.
We will require a Medical Assessment form to be completed by your GP or Medical Practioner to support your request. The supporting evidence must confirm your need for a specific type of room or location, but you should note provision of such evidence is not a guarantee that you will be offered a specific room type or location. If you choose not to disclose this important information within your Accommodation Application, but advise us after an offer of accommodation has been made, it will be too late to offer you the most suitable accommodation which will meet your requirements.
Some of our accommodation has been specially adapted to include:
You are advised to contact the Accommodation Service as soon as possible for advice on which type of accommodation best suits your requirements. If possible, you should visit us to discuss your needs and to ensure you are happy with the facilities. The Student Wellbeing Service can help you make arrangements for your visit. You may also wish to read our Access for All leaflet.
You can take a look at the site-specific adaptations at:
Accommodation for Carers
If you need a resident personal carer, the University may be able to provide a room on campus. You will need to ensure that the cost of the carer's room can be met. Home fee paying students may be able to reclaim the cost of the carer's accommodation from their home area Social Services Department. Students wishing to request financial support from their Social Services Department must ensure that, following a community assessment, the 'Care Plan' recommends provision of a personal assistant/carer.
Further general site information can be found via our accommodation pages. You are advised to contact the Accommodation Service or the Student Wellbeing Service for advice and where appropriate, assistance to help you arrange a visit to evaluate the facilities that we can provide. Further useful information can be found on the Student Wellbeing Service website, from our Access for all Leaflet and from the University's Hardware Loan Scheme.
