Accessible Accommodation
The University can offer a range of accommodation to meet varying individual requirements.
In order for us to consider your needs you should ensure that you complete the relevant section of the Application Form and also be prepared to submit additional medical evidence to support your request from a GP or medical practitioner.
This information will then be used to assist us in providing the most appropriate accommodation or equipment, often taking advice or guidance from staff in Disability Support, part of the Student Wellbeing Service.
Some of our accommodation has been specially adapted to include:
- larger rooms for specialist equipment
- mini-cool to store medication
- wheelchair access
- personal care support provision
- vibrating pillow
- adjustable beds and study desks
- Braille kitchen equipment
You can take a look at the site-specific adaptations at:
- Castle Leazes (undergraduate)
- Henderson Hall (undergraduate)
- Leazes Terrace (postgraduate)
- Richardson Road (undergraduate)
- Marris House (undergraduate)
- Claremont Place (postgraduate)
- Windsor Terrace (undergraduate)
Further general site information can be found via our accommodation pages. You are advised to contact the Accommodation Office or the Student Wellbeing Service for advice and, where appropriate, to arrange a visit to evaluate the facilities that we can provide. Further useful information can be found on the Student Wellbeing Service website, from our Access for all Handbook (PDF: 97 KB) and from the University's Hardware Loan Scheme.
