Castle Leazes is located a short walk of the campus, University Sports Centre and city centre. It provides comfortable accommodation with a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, offering both catered and self-catered options.

For those in catered rooms, breakfast and evening meals are served Monday to Friday in the dining rooms. Vegetarian options are available, however we are unable to cater for every dietary need and in particular we are unable to offer Kosher, Vegan or Halal diets. Catering is further complemented with The Hub coffee shop, serving good-value hot and cold snacks and drinks during the day and, at other times, light snacks and sandwiches can be bought from the bar and shop. Vending machines provide a 24-hour service for confectionery, snacks and drinks. Small snack kitchens are available for when meals are not provided and include a cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster but you must provide your own crockery. While the blocks are mixed gender, you share the corridor, bathroom and kitchen facilities with students of the same gender. There are a small number of rooms situated within two-bedroom flats in the blocks which are used as overflow accommodation.

If you are in self-catered accommodation, you will share (with approximately 10 rooms to a floor) the corridor, bathroom and kitchen facilities with students of the same gender but the block will be mixed. Kitchens contain full sized cooker, refrigerator and freezer (with dedicated shelf space for each resident), microwave, kettle and toaster, and each resident has a lockable cupboard. A separate dining room is situated opposite the kitchen. Residents in the en suite rooms will share a 10-bedroom flat with a fully equipped communal kitchen, dining area and lounge with comfortable seating and a flat-screen TV, complete with TV licence. Being self-catered you will have to cook and clean for yourself but you can opt to take occasional meals in the dining room (a hot main meal is only £3.50) or, better still, buy into the fully catered package and let someone else do it for you!  Vegetarian options are available, however we are unable to cater for every dietary need and in particular we are unable to offer Kosher, Vegan or Halal diets. Crockery packs are included in all self-catered kitchens. Vacuum cleaners are also provided.

With over 1,000 students at Castle Leazes, there is a large range of facilities and social events to ensure that residents get the best introduction to student life. There is also a computer cluster of over 30 PCs, linked to the Internet via the University’s Information Systems and Services.

Social events include:

  • inter-hall sports such as pool and table tennis

A large screen TV in the bar area allows sporting events to be viewed.

The resident wardens and senior residents offer support and help to create a suitable environment for study, relaxation and recreation.
