We are delighted you have accepted our offer of accommodation. With over 5000 students moving in over the 20 and 21 September, all sites and the City will be extremely busy. We want to make your move into University accommodation as smooth as possible at the start of the academic year. We hope this guide will help and ask that you note the following:
Keys can be collected from Richardson Road reception and you should refer to your contract for your move in date.

Students who expect to arrive outside of opening hours will need to contact the Estate Security Service on 0191 208 6817. Security Officers will arrange to meet you and provide you with your room key.
Remember: You will be asked to show your 'Key Release' paperwork, so please have this to present upon your arrival.
To ease congestion students who live close to the University, ie less than 200 miles, are advised to arrive between 9am to 12noon. Students travelling longer distances, ie greater than 200 miles, should aim to collect their keys between 12noon and 3pm.
Staff and student helpers will be on duty over the weekend to direct you to the appropriate blocks and assist you with moving in.
Location: Marris House is situated off the A167 on the northwest side of Newcastle, half a mile from the main University campus and the Haymarket Metro station.
Directions by road:
From the North take the A1 to Newcastle. Turn off the A1 onto the A167 (Ponteland Road) at the junction with the A167 and A696 following signs for ‘City Centre’. Continue on the A167 straight across three roundabouts following signs for ‘City Centre/ Tynemouth’. At the fourth roundabout turn left onto the A167(M) following signs for ‘City Centre’. Continue past the first exit (Cow Hill) and leave the A167(M) at the second exit signed for ‘City Centre (North)/Universities/ RV Infirmary B1318’. Turn right at the top of the slip road and turn right (third exit, ignoring the sign advising University turn left) at the next roundabout onto North Terrace (Claremont Road). Continue forward and turn left onto C116 (A189) following signs for Spital Tongues/Leazes Park. Turn left at traffic lights.
From the South take the A1 heading past the Angel of the North indicating beginning of Gateshead area. Turn off the A1 onto the A184 (Gateshead, Newcastle Centre). Continue forward onto the A6082 (Newcastle – going over the Redheugh Bridge). Continue forward onto the A189 (City Centre). At Wakenshaw VC Junction continue forward onto the A189 (City Centre, Ashington). At Hadrian’s Wall Junction continue forward onto the A189. At Milburn Junction continue forward onto the A189. At traffic signals turn left onto the A187 (Morpeth). Continue on the A187 until you reach traffic lights at the junction of Brighton Grove/Hunters Road. Turn right onto Hunters Road, then continue until you reach the junction at Richardson road. Turn right onto Richardson Road.
From the West at the A1/A186 junction follow the signs for City West. At Denton Burn roundabout take the first exit onto the A191 (Kenton Bar). At roundabout take the third exit onto the A167 (City Centre). At roundabout take the first exit onto the A167. At Cowgate Roundabout take the second exit onto the A167 (City Centre). Take the second exit turning right at the top of the slip road and turn right (third exit, ignoring the sign advising University turn left) at the next roundabout onto North Terrace (Claremont Road). Continue forward and turn left onto C116 (A189) following signs for Spital Tongues/Leazes Park. Turn left at traffic lights.
Traffic Restrictions in the City: Newcastle United currently have a home fixture scheduled for Saturday 20 September and the football ground is very close to the University, so be prepared for heavier traffic flows prior to kick-off which is programmed for 3pm.
By public transport: Bus companies operate a service to Richardson Road from the city centre. For up-to-date information on public transport please use the journey planner. You will need to enter your arrival point in Newcastle in the Travel From field and enter 'Richardson Road (Spital Tongues)' in the Travel To field. You will be given details of which services operate.
For bus times and fares refer to Nexus Travel Line at www.nexus.org.uk or contact them by telephone on 0871 200 2233. Calls to this number will cost 10 pence a minute from a landline and considerably more from a mobile.
By train: From Newcastle Central Station you can take the Metro (rapid transit system) to the Haymarket Metro station. The Metro runs every five minutes during the day and Richardson Road Reception is 15 minutes’ walk from the Haymarket. Taxis are also available from both the Central Station and Haymarket.
By air: Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles northwest of Newcastle University. A taxi from the Airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £15. You can also travel by Metro to the Haymarket which will take about 25 minutes; Richardson Road Reception is 15 minutes’ walk from the Haymarket. Taxis are also available from Haymarket.
