Terms of Contract

Undergraduate

Undergraduate contracts in University accommodation are for 38 weeks, which includes the Christmas and Easter vacation periods. This enables you to leave your possessions in your room during holidays. In catered accommodation no meals are provided over the vacations.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate students in University accommodation have a choice of two contract periods: 38 and 49 weeks.

  • If you opt for a 49-week contract, you will be able to stay in your room through the year until August 2013.
  • A 38-week contract should be able to be extended until August 2013, but we cannot guarantee you'll keep the same room.

Managed Partnership Accommodation

Contracts offered are for an average 42- or 43 week period with the possibility to extend over the summer. You can move in from September 2012. Find out more information about contracts in our Managed Partnership Accommodation.

Arrival

Arrival will be over Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September 2012 and you will be advised of the expected arrival date for your allocated room. International and European students will be given contracts commencing on 18 September 2012. If you arrive earlier and are allowed entry to your room, you will incur additional accommodation fees at the daily rate, but there will be no reduction should you arrive after the start date of your contract.

Online Contract

When you are offered University-owned accommodation, you will be sent an e-mail which will direct you to the online contract and you will have seven days to accept or reject the offer. If you accept the offer you are electronically signing a legally binding agreement in which you undertake to live in the accommodation for the full period of the contract. As a resident of University-owned accommodation, you must also observe the terms and conditions for your particular accommodation.

Change of Room or Accommodation

If you are unhappy with your room allocation, we are unable to offer any other alternative. You can, however, after acceptance of your allocated room, register on our facebook page for a room swap. If we can identify another student that wishes to swap with you, we will issue new contracts prior to your arrival.

Alternatively, on 1 November you will have the opportunity to request a transfer. You will not be offered a transfer whilst other students are still waiting for their first room allocation. It is more likely that a transfer will proceed at the beginning of term two.

Swaps and transfers are subject to certain restrictions and charges.

Should you decide to leave University accommodation you will be charged the rent on your room for the remainder of the contract. You will only be released if another student can be found who is not already living in University accommodation, and who wishes to take over your contract.. If you withdraw from the University you will be charged the rent on your room for the full termly billing period and will only be released if another student can be found who is not already living in University accommodation and wishes to take over your contract..

Students living in Managed Partnership accommodation will be liable for the full contract unless a replacement tenant is found. You will not be released from the contract at the end of the termly billing period should you withdraw from your studies.

Part-year students

If you are a part-year student and are successful in being offered University accommodation, there is a minimum period of residence. The dates will represent a 'best fit' to match the duration of your stay and you will be charged for the whole period, including vacations. You can only be offered one of the following contract periods, availability permitting:
