Barker House is self-catered accommodation available for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Each apartment has a contemporary open plan kitchen/living space. There is a flat screen TV, leather sofas, washer/dryer, large fridge and separate large freezer.
There is no on-site parking at Barker House for residents. Parking is via Pay and Display car parks nearby.
There is access to an external bike rack.
Barker House has 137 en-suite bedrooms.

We take the safety of our students very seriously and there is an on-site biometrics/entry-phone system/CCTV to ensure your peace of mind.

Bus companies operate services to Barker House from the city centre. There is a bus stop directly outside the block.

Calls to this number will cost 10 pence a minute from a landline and considerably more from a mobile.
From Newcastle Central Station you can take a bus and taxis are also available.
Newcastle International Airport is about seven miles northwest of Newcastle University.
A taxi from the airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £15.
You can also travel by Metro (rapid transport system) to Central Station which will take about 30 minutes. You can then take a bus to Barker House.

Postgraduate contracts run from 18 September 2017 to 10 September 2018.
First year student contracts are 23 September 2017 to 14 July 2018.
Your rent includes a hot water and heating allowance of £6.00 per person per week (£306.00 per year). You will be liable for any charge above this allowance figure.
WiFi includes standard broadband of 20mb/s. Upgrades are available.
The damages deposit for Barker House is £200.

One accessible en suite study-bedroom with height adjustable furniture suitable for wheelchair users. The en suite is equipped with pull cord alarm with grab rails.
The communal kitchen is equipped with lowered worktops, sink and hob with front facing controls, low-level cupboard unit and fire alarm strobe warning light.
The pull cord is linked to the Reception and is monitored by the 24-hour monitoring service.

We have a large variety of room types so can't show every variation. The room you're allocated may look different to the ones shown in the virtual tours.
You are responsible for the collection of your own set of keys which will be available from the reception at Barker House from 12 noon on the first date of your contract period. You will be provided with one key which will operate the door to the flat and your own bedroom.
The external doors are operated via a biometric system; this means you will need to have a finger scanned when you first arrive.
To allow us to organise this procedure efficiently, please contact our Admin Team to confirm the date and approximate time of arrival.
Where possible we would strongly encourage you to collect your keys during the office opening hours below so that we can deal with your queries.

First year undergraduate students should note that arrival times will be the same as above but keys can only be collected on the weekend of Saurday 23rd and Sunday 24th September 2017.
Outside of the above times, entry can be organised but only by prior arrangement with our Admin Team. Please note that we need a minimum of 24 hours' notice (longer for weekend arrivals since we work Monday to Friday).
Normal opening hours for the Reception will be displayed in Barker House following the busy move-in period.
Please note there is no parking at Barker House but Shield Street, Portland Road and surrounding streets have a number of on road pay and display spaces.

Reception opening times
Reception at the site is manned for two hours per day Monday to Friday. Tenants are advised weekly of the opening times as these can vary.
