The School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (AFRD) are delighted to announce our success in achieving a silver award of the Athena SWAN Charter, recognising advancement of gender equality: representation, progression and success for all.
This is the first Silver Athena SWAN award in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering.
Head of School Professor Rob Edwards warmly congratulated the team who have worked towards achieving this award for the school and added:
“This is excellent news for everyone in Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and sets the direction of travel for the new expanded School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. The Athena SWAN award recognises our commitment to equality of opportunity for everyone and our determination to create a positive working environment. This is vital, not only for academics but for all the professionals – technical, administrative and specialist support staff - who work with us to ensure our research and teaching are effective and, of course, it is equally important for our students”.
Director of Diversity, Professor Chris Phillips, also added his congratulations:
“I am delighted that AFRD's considerable efforts with regard to achieving gender parity have been recognised by this Athena SWAN Silver Award, and I warmly congratulate all associated with this achievement. There is an opportunity for other Schools within the Faculty to learn from the processes that AFRD has gone through and I hope that they will be encouraged to achieve their own Silver Awards shortly.”
