 Aims and Objectives

The UK turkey industry wishes to improve its efficiency and reduce its environmental impact.  In order to do so it needs to assess the current impacts of turkey enterprises.  This should enable identification of input/output activities within the system that contribute significantly to their efficiency and environmental impact, and have possibilities for improvement.

The Project has the following specific objectives:

  1. To quantify the environmental impacts the current UK turkey systems through a Life Cycle Assessment tool.
  2. To identify "hot spots" in the systems that contrbute to their environmental impact.
  3. To consider specific changes in the systems that may enhance their efficiency and reduce their environmental impact, whilst maintaining the economic sustainability.

By addressing these, the project will be able to generate guidelines on "environmental impact best practice" in turkey systems.
