Environmental Science Careers
The environmental science sector has grown rapidly over the last decade. Increasing environmental legislation means there are many new employment areas in industry and the public sector. Our degrees prepare you for a wide choice of careers open to you. You could work in:
- environmental consultancy - assessing the impact of activities such as quarrying, industrial development or road building;
- waste management or disposal;
- the agro-chemical industry - researching the environmental effects of herbicides and pesticides;
- land-use assessment, management and reclamation;
- conservation - with bodies such as Wildlife Trusts or the Environment Agency;
- the voluntary sector - helping with the environmental problems in developing countries.
National statistics show that 80% of environmental science graduates go directly into employment or further training - a higher proportion than most science subjects! This is because employers value the range of practical and academic skills you've gained.
Our graduates have gone on to work for a wide range of organisations including the European Parliament, Oxfam, Meteorological Office and Oxfam.
