Summary

The aim of this module is to introduce students to selected principles of economics as they apply to the business environment. It is designed for first year undergraduates. Extensive use is made of business examples and case studies.

Aims

To cover selected principles of economics from a business perspective. To show how economics can be used to understand business problems and aspects of the business environment.

Outline Of Syllabus

Business and economics; Business and markets; Background to demand; Background to supply; Supply – short-run profit maximisation; Supply – alternative strategies.

Intended Knowledge Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to understand how economics relates to the business environment.

Intended Skill Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to apply selected economic principles to the analysis of business behaviour. The module also prepares students for further economic study at subsequent stages of their degree programme.
