Spotlight on Sub Saharan Africa

Networking event on Sustainable Development Research in Sub Saharan Africa

Date/Time: 1:30 – 3:30pm, 30th January 2017

Venue: TBC

To coincide with a visit from the DFID Chief Scientific Advisor, the networking event ‘Spotlight on Sub Saharan Africa’ is planned for 30th January 2017 at Newcastle University (venue to be confirmed).

Aim:

To bring researchers together, from different disciplines and faculties, who have active research or have research interests in sustainable development in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) in order to:

• Highlight Newcastle research taking place in SSA and with SSA partners
• Showcase our research in SSA to DFID Chief Scientific Advisor
• Stimulate interdisciplinary research connections through time-efficient networking
• Position researchers to create links to enable funding applications which require an interdisciplinary approach, such as Global Challenges Research Funding

Format:

There will be dynamic ‘Pecha-Kucha’ style presentations followed by informal networking over refreshments.

Pecha-Kucha is a dynamic, rapid method of communication, where presentations are very short and timed. There will be a set of pre-loaded, timed presentations, each lasting 3 minutes, from researchers, giving an intro to their research in SSA and their partners. A template will be provided to speakers.

A similar event was held for India in October, with excellent feedback as an effective, time-efficient networking opportunity, resulting in new multi-disciplinary collaborations.

Registration:

If you would like to participate, please complete the registration details

Part of the registration is a short summary of your own research interests in SSA. The summaries will be shared with participants to further facilitate networking after the event.
