Nicole Valtorta takes prize for Best Paper 2016 with BMJ Heart
Dr Nicole Valtorta is a mixed-methods researcher at Newcastle University, currently working on the health implications of social relationships and health inequity across the life course.
She joined Newcastle University Institute for Health and Society in 2016 following an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship in York.
Her winning BMJ Heart paper entitled, Loneliness and social isolation as risk factors for coronary heart disease and stroke: systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal observational studies, looks at the influence of social relationships on morbidity, particularly the size of the risk to cardiovascular health, which is still unclear.
The paper was successful in winning the BMJ Heart Best Paper Award 2016. The judges recognised the paper for its high quality and clinical impact.
