Organising a Reunion?

Organizing a reunion? If you are thinking of planning a reunion, but are unsure where to start, take advantage of the advice the Alumni Relations Office can provide! We can provide a range of advice, from booking a venue, catering, invitations and publicity. Take a look at our quick guide to help you get started

Decide what group you want to re-unite

  • Department/Year (eg Politics 1973), Sports Team/Special Interest Groups (eg Rugby Club or Hall of Residence), Special Anniversary (eg 10, 25 or 50 years since graduation)
  • As with all the best reunions, there are no hard and fast rules, you can make the criteria as wide or as narrow as you choose – it’s your reunion!

Decide what sort of event you want to have

  • Do you want to tie in with a Reunion Weekend on campus or hold a separate event at another time of year? Do you want to include lunch, dinner or to visit your former department?
  • Once you have had these initial thoughts, contact the Alumni Office – we will be happy to talk through your plans and advise where we can. We can recommend venues in certain locations and can help make any preliminary bookings or reservations.

Organizing a reunion?Find the names and up-to-date contact details for your group

  • Check NUgrad – our online alumni directory
  • The Alumni Office can help locate relevant alumni. Although we are not able to give out names and addresses, we will do the work in compiling an address list. You will then be ready to make your first contact with the group, a mailing which we will organize on your behalf.

Draft a message to the group

  • Draft a letter and pass a copy through to the Office. We can either photocopy a standard letter, or you can personalise it to whatever extent you wish. Replies can either be sent directly to you, or via the Office – whichever you prefer

Wait for responses

  • You might consider sending a ‘reminder’ letter or email a month before the event (again, we can help with this).

Turn up on the day and enjoy yourself!
