Help us bring to life unique, extra-curricular projects aimed at enhancing students’ employability and benefitting the community.
The ASSI Fund only exists thanks to your donations. It offers students the opportunity to develop an existing project or idea that they are passionate about, and turn it into a reality. The Fund reimburses up to half the costs of successful projects (up to a maximum value of £500).
Importantly, students also receive in-kind support and guidance from the University’s Careers Service, Students’ Union and Alumni Association for the duration of the project, helping to make them as successful as possible.
Last year 8 projects were brought to life thanks to your generous donations to the AASI Fund.
Summary of projects:
Over 90 Newcastle University students were involved in project-development
Themes included: Sustainability, Education, Art and Design, Music and Entertainment

Thanks to your donations to the AASI Fund, Sam Steventon, (Stage 3 Biology), was able to create ‘Phylum Feast’ (pictured) – a workshop event teaching schoolchildren about species diversity. It even included the chance to taste exotic species!
Sam said, “The grant provided by the AASI Fund allowed us to put 125 different species on the table which was essential in providing the ‘feast’ element.
“Our aim was to give the children involved an interest in the world around them, and in turn encourage them to think about the environment, biodiversity, sustainability and the things we can eat!”
Sam’s event took place on 10th February 2012, and was attended by 200 school pupils and teachers.
