Formerly the ncl+ foundation, the Alumni Association Student Initiative Fund was established to provide grants of up to £500 for extra-curricular projects run by students. These projects in the past have been proposed by students from all over the University, wanting to enrich their skills and see through a project they truly believed in.
With in-kind support from the Careers Service and the Students' Union, not only does the recipient receive financial reimbursement but also valuable skills of learning how to manage a budget and report-writing. Funds from alumni donations make the learning of these skills and the success of these projects a reality.
Funding has been granted for a diverse range of projects, benefitting not only students, but communities both in the UK and abroad.
Tom Baker, a Civil and Structural Engineering student, received funding to take a team to Uganda to build a shelter for AIDS orphans. 'The support the foundation gave us was invaluable in helping us to achieve our goal,' says Tom. 'One child told us that he and the children no longer considered themselves orphans because now they could live as a family in their new home.'
A gift to the Alumni Association Student Initiative Fund can make a huge difference to people all over the world.
