The Hatton Gallery

Situated at the heart of the University campus, the Hatton is home to the legendary annual Fine Art and MFA degree shows, as well as a regularly-changing, vibrant programme of historical and contemporary art exhibitions.

Now, we are planning and ambitious capital project to revitalise the Hatton, creating flexible galleries, including a new gallery for Kurt Schwitters’ iconic Merzbarn Wall, and a dedicated learning space. At the same time, we are developing a stimulating programme of contemporary art built around the Hatton’s excellent permanent collections, including loans, touring exhibitions and new commissions.

Thanks to Arts Council England’s Catalyst Arts scheme, every £1 donated to the Hatton Gallery between now and 31st May 2014 will be matched by £1. This means that a £100 gift, with Gift Aid, will be worth £225. Your support will make a significant difference to students of fine art and visitors alike. There has never been a better time to give.

Graduate Fred Brookes (BA Fine Art, 1967) explains what makes the Hatton Gallery special:

“The Hatton Gallery is a very central part of the education of the people who go through the Fine Art department, as I did and many others have done. It’s also a public venue. It has an accumulated set of works across a broad range, it’s able to contain and present exhibitions from a wide variety of sources, it’s got quite an eclectic approach, and it’s made a big contribution to the understanding of art in this city and much more widely.”
