Social Mentoring Support

Annual fund logoFor some of our students, especially those who have trouble communicating with others, coming to University can be a daunting experience.

Newcastle University studentsOur Student Wellbeing team can provide coping strategies for these students on how to manage anxiety around joining social activities. A £100 gift to the Annual Fund would pay for a support worker to work with a student individually for four hours, and help develop their social skills.

Students with these difficulties aren't eligible for government funding, like the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), because they aren't classed as having a disability under the criteria of the Equality Act (2010). But their need is very clear, and vulnerable students do leave university because they've not been able to make friends in a setting that is comfortable for them.

With your help, we can make their student experience an enjoyable one.
