ACG member profiles: Helen Miland (BSc Geography 1994)

Helen MilandHelen graduated from Newcastle in 1994 with a BSc (Hons) in Geography. After spending a year living and working in South Africa, Helen completed her PGCE course to teach both Geography and Maths at secondary level.

Since graduating, Helen has worked in a number of schools in the North East. Since 1997 she has been teaching in Sunderland and recently has been promoted to Head of Sixth form. Helen’s other main responsibility in school is helping students with their progression onto Higher Education which is one of the main reasons she decided to join the ACG.

In this time of almost unparalleled change in the provision of Undergraduate education, Helen aims to be to be a voice that can represent the ACG and the University as a whole, providing valuable input directly to the senior management of the University.  

Helen has a passion for travel. She has spent many months exploring much of South America, including a period of time living and working in Peru.
