Liz Smith, BA English Language 1984

Liz began volunteering in the Alumni office for one day a week, helping with arrangements for the annual Reunion Weekend, writing copy for the brochure, booking venues and sourcing caterers, as well as helping out at the event itself.

Having previously worked as a Press and Public Relations Officer at St. Oswald's Hospice, Liz has also written for Arches magazine. 'One of the most interesting jobs I have done was to find out exactly where in the world our Alumni were' says Liz, 'It did wonders for my geography!' Liz also added: 'I would recommend volunteering to anyone'.

Liz's work for us has really helped the University achieve the great amount of alumni contact we enjoy today. To volunteer your services as a local ambassador, please contact us.

Julia DeereJulia Deere, BA Combined Studies 2007

'Having decided I wanted to pursue a career in Events and knowing that the best way to get a good job is to gain hands-on experience, I contacted the Alumni Office who offered me work experience in their Events sector, whilst I was studying.

'The skills developed and the practice undertaken during my placement are invaluable and look great on my CV. This has been a fantastic experience and I recommend it to anybody wishing to work in Events'.
