The occasion provides an opportunity for graduates from across the globe to reconnect with friends and former classmates on campus.
Convocation is the statutory body that represents all alumni and ensures that the views and ideas of graduates are understood by the University’s senior management.
Guests at this year’s meeting will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a unique preview of the plans for Freedom City 2017.
Freedom City 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Newcastle University awarding an honorary degree to Dr Martin Luther King. The two year programme of arts, culture and debate will draw on the themes of war, poverty and racism highlighted by Dr King, which remain as relevant today as they were in 1967.
The aims of the celebrations are to empower and inspire a new generation, create internationality significant artistic works and to stimulate academic research and international debate.
Guests at this year's event will also be able to attend the official launch of The Courier Online Archive and attend a special Gala Dinner in honour of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Brink, who is set to retire at the end of 2016.
Booking for each of these events is now open. We recommend booking early as capacity for some of these events is limited.
