Graduate’s ambulance ramp wins Royal seal of approval

Simon Chacksfield’s (BEng Marine Technology (Hons in Small Craft Technology) 1992) company SG Technical Systems Ltd is to receive a prestigious 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The award for Innovation has been received for a pioneering ambulance ramp the firm has developed.

The powered, folding ramp opens and closes like a book. When it’s closed, the ramp forms part of the vehicle floor but when it is open, it helps form a single continuous surface between the road and vehicle floor allowing stretchers and wheelchairs to be moved with greater ease.

The ramp has already been fitted into NHS and private A&E ambulances across the UK. Its patent protected features also improve the reliability and in-service time of the product.

Company success

Based in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, Simon established SG in 2010. His vision was to create innovative, high quality products backed by a reputation for the highest standards of reliability. Staying true to this vision, the business has grown substantially year on year, with orders received this year already from the UK, France, Germany, Hong Kong and South Korea and elsewhere.

Simon said: "It is a huge honour for SG to receive the Queens Award for Enterprise. This award recognises our continual pursuit of innovation and quality and the hugely positive benefits for our customers."
