Newcastle graduate set to take the Tyne to the Atlantic

Phil Kite (BA Economics and Accounting, 1982) is currently preparing to take part in the world’s toughest rowing race in a bid to showcase the innovation of the North East.

Next year, Phil will embark on the 3,000 mile Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, alongside two team mates as ‘Team Tyne Innovation’.

The aim of Team Tyne Innovation is to demonstrate the creativity of the North East, its businesses and universities. To do so, Team Tyne Innovation are offering the opportunity to market local businesses within their bid, gaining international media exposure for the North East, from what is now a well-established race.

The team are also looking to raise funds for a number of charities.

Ahead of the Great Exhibition of the North in 2018, Team Tyne Innovation have applied for their boat to be on display throughout exhibition.

Phil is currently a North-East businessman and until 2017, he was the CEO of the Reece Group, the holding company for a diverse group of engineering businesses based at the iconic Armstrong Works, on the banks of the Tyne.
