Newcastle University Business School, London Alumni Branch – Our story…

Your time at university is a time not just for learning new skills and acquiring knowledge, it should be a time for making new friends and building strong relationships, which will hopefully last a lifetime.

This is something that many of the Newcastle University Business School students have found to be the case. Newcastle itself, as well as the interactive and welcoming culture of the university, creates an environment where this is not only possible, but actively encouraged.

They, and we, do not believe that this should come to an end just because you graduate. In many parts of the world ex-Business School students and graduates are rediscovering themselves and reforming those relationships, establishing social, business and even emotional support networks, which help the ethos of the university thrive as well as allowing individuals to discover, and build on, their own as well as their peers’ potential.

The Newcastle University Business School London Alumni Branch was officially established in November 2012 with this idea in mind . Our motto “connecting people not collecting cards” is a stark contrast to the archaic notion of how to effectively network and keep people interested, engaged and motivated.

Combining the discovery of the many wonderful sights and sounds of the capital with the opportunity to make friends and useful business connections, we have been able to meet new people from different backgrounds, cultures and doing various jobs from consulting to linguists!

We have enjoyed hot chocolate in Somerset House, enjoyed the Olympic glow on the beautiful South Bank and have enjoyed some wonderful Irish hospitality and we are looking to build on this. We want to be more than a social club for people, we want to be a far-ranging support network for those who are looking to live and work in this amazing, diverse, sometimes misunderstood city.

Our events are designed to create a warm environment for relationships – business and otherwise – to be created and thrive. In the future (and based on your input), we will have focused activities which will help you to acquire new skills, develop your existing ones, increase your knowledge and help you become the best that you can possibly be.

In short, this alumni community is all about YOU are who we represent. YOU are the people whose ideas and commitment will drive it forward. We cannot wait to see you and for you to be a part of the ‘Weak Tie Revolution’ we have going on down here!

We should also mention that we are also not just for Business School graduates, but are throwing open our doors to anyone interested in Business networking or Business in general, we are inclusive and open for business to all Newcastle University alumni!
