The CRC inquiry into the future of England's upland communities released their report, co-authored by Professor Mark Shucksmith, on Tuesday 15 June. The inquiry has gathered evidence from a wide range of sources and heard first-hand the experiences and views of those who live and work in the uplands.
"The people we met in uplands communities during this inquiry inspired us with their resilience and abilities, while telling us about threats to valued public assets and how remote government appears to them," said Professor Mark Shucksmith. "I hope this inquiry will lead to greater recognition of the national importance of the uplands and their communities.
"I also hope the solutions we propose will help government to support and empower these communities in ways which fully realise their potential for the nation, by making better use of public money and encouraging initiative and innovation."
The report has received extensive news coverage, both locally and nationally. You can read the summary report at the CRC website.
