Newcastle University to host Design Awareness Training for Home Group

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape is pleased to be hosting Design Awareness Training for Home Group, one of the United Kingdom’s largest housing providers with its headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Enterprise and Development Team at Home Group is responsible for delivering their national housing programme and envisaging new, better neighbourhoods and, to support improved design quality of housing and regeneration projects, they are launching a Design Advisory Panel to review the designs of all significant developments planned by the Development Team before seeking planning approval.

The Panel will consist of leading design and construction professionals and trained Home Group customers and clients.  The Panel will be chaired by Peter Buchan of Ryder Architecture, and its Core Practitioner Panel Members include Alex Ely (Mae), Karen Anderson (Anderson Bell Christie) and Nicola Garmony (TGP Landscape Architects).

Dhruv Sookhoo, Design Manager at Home Group, said: "As an alumni of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape it feels right that the customer and client design awareness training be delivered within the University and include study trips of the region’s housing.  The training will conclude with a mock design review event in which Alex Ely, who will be delivering the training, will present Mae’s award winning scheme ‘the Guts’ at New Islington, Manchester".
