Student Volunteers Return to Uganda

Wider Mbarara Project 2010 sees 12 Newcastle University students travelling to Uganda to build on previous years' work on a childrens orphanage in the village of Kichwamba.  The students are taken from the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Civil Engineering and Geography, Planning and Sociology and are the second year of a five year project to build a Children's Village for orphans.

They will be finishing a building started last year so that the children can move in over summer. They will be working with local labourers to finish the verandah, flooring, plastering and electrics. If completed in time, they will then move on to building a toilet block. This will mean that next year's group can start to build dormitories, allowing more children to be taken in.
