Architecture for Everyone - Careers Pathway Daymasterplan for exhibition park

On Wednesday 29th September the School hosted a Careers Pathway Day for young people interested in further study within the built environment.

The day was part of the Architecture for Everyone initiative, funded by the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, and was organised by Northern Architecture, the architecture centre for the North East, and Newcastle University.

Approximately 60 young people, many of whom were recruited from schools that do not send high percentages of pupils into higher education, came to the School for an introduction to the various careers within the built environment, including architecture and planning. They then split off into five groups, led by a tutor, to work together around an issue and find out more about each of the subjects: Architecture, Planning, Sustainability, Computer Aided Design and Construction/Engineering.

The day was a great success and Rose Gilroy, Director of Engagement, said " We already have a good record on widening participation and this new collaboration with the A4E Partnership and Northern Architecture provided another great opportunity to encourage bright young people to think about making a career in the built environment arena".
