The BA Graduation Project this year comprised of three distinct design projects, all set in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear: ‘Afterimage’, a cyclotel/vélodrome complex on the site of the recently demolished Gateshead Car Park; ‘New Horizons’, a regional Montessori Elementary School & Training Centre in the Chandless Area; ‘Mind the Gap’, an urban regeneration exercise in the Gateshead Bridges Area.
In their different ways the three projects all explore issues related to future urban inhabitation. They are a creative engagement – through the architectural medium – with the challenges of finding new ways of making places that will inspire and sustain social interaction, work and play for the current as well as future generations.
