ARC: Experimental Architecture

About

Experimental Architecture is a new field in the School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape. It builds on a tradition of visionary thinking about the choreography of space, by taking its ideas into a variety of different kinds of laboratories, from design studios, to field studies and formal scientific research environments. Outputs are also varied but centre on the production of prototypes, which range from drawings, renderings, models and installations to explore architectures of the near future.

Institutionally, we are working towards establishing a creative innovation platform that entangles artistic and scientific research practices, for the innovation and development of new materials, methods, fabrication and technological applications that may shape our environment and living spaces. The aim is to establish a different kind of relationship between matter, design, dwelling, poetics, nature, aesthetics and ‘being' that provide counterpoints to industrial systems and technologies.
