Postgraduate Study

Bioengineering offers new ways of combating existing conditions; it’s a great time to be involved in the bioprocess sector.

It’s an area that’s getting a lot of attention; it’s capturing the imagination and attracting investment which will drive the work, excitement and challenges.

Biopharmaceutical process development is about taking discoveries and turning them into effective medicines which are more generally available. The BBTC has attracted funding which means that there are new laboratory facilities and state of the art equipment not yet seen in other academic institutions.

The Engineering Doctorate in Biopharmaceutical Process Development (EngD) at Newcastle University is the first Doctoral programme of its kind. It combines training in leading edge techniques like Quality by Design and Process Analytical Technology with professional skills training to prepare students for careers within industry.

The EngD provides an opportunity to gain industrial experience and training, while at the same time studying for a research degree. This programme represents academia and industry working together to solve the industrial research challenges of the present and produce the bio-business leaders of the future.
