This degree programme will provide students with a training in the scientific principles necessary for an understanding of industrial biotechnology with particular emphasis on developing the interface between the biological sciences and bioprocess control/public health engineering.
Specifically, the course will provide generic practical skills in handling microorganisms, molecular biological techniques and data analysis through set practicals, seminar sessions and a research project. Where possible this research project is done within an industrial environment thus providing hands-on training and experience for those considering a career in the industrial biosciences.
The course offers a specialised interdisciplinary training for students from a wide range of backgrounds, but with little experience in biotechnology, and aims to equip students with both the knowledge and the skllls required for employment in industrial biotechnological companies.
