Biology Undergraduate Open Days

Students enjoying their microscopyAll applicants who are offered a place on one of our degree programmes are invited to an Open Day.

These provide a chance for you to find out more about your chosen programme and ask students and staff any questions you might have.

You'll be shown around the School and the campus by our students and can take a tour of the halls of residence. Our staff will spend time with your parents or guardian if you bring them along.

Our open Days are held from February to May. Some of the Open Days are arranged to be mid-week, but others are on Saturdays. Your parents or guardians are welcome to come along.

Dates of our Open Days for 2012

  • Saturday 25th February
  • Wednesday 7th March
  • Saturday 10th March
  • Wednesday 18th April
  • Saturday 28th April

The School of Biology Open Day Programme (PDF: 166KB) gives an outline of the programme of events on the day.

This day will give you all information you need and include a presentation on course structure, a panel session where students will answer all the questions you may have and an informal buffet lunch.

After that undergraduate students take groups of applicants on a campus tour, while parents will be shown around by staff. This is followed by sessions in the teaching laboratories and a session on welfare and finances.

Within the programme there is also a walking tour of two of the University's accommodation sites (Castle Leazes and Richardson Road). Please note that these accommodation tours are organised by the University rather than the School.

The location of the venues that we use in our programme are the Lindisfarne Room, Kings Road Centre (nr 4), and the second floor laboratories, Ridley Building (nr 52), and they can be found on this map.

In addition, the University organises Visit Days in July and October designed for pre-application enquiries.
