Outstanding learning and teaching environment providing research-led undergraduate degree programmes

About us

The School of Biomedical Sciences is part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. We're located in the Medical School building (location 60 on the campus map).

Newcastle upon Tyne is world famous for its warm and welcoming attitude. It's a great place to be a student, and is ranked first in the UK for student experience.

Our students rate us 96-100% for student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2016), and we were ranked 8th out of 73 universities in the Times Good University Guide 2014.

Our work contributes to the consistent success of subjects such as Medicine, Dentistry and Life Sciences in the UK and international league tables.

We support undergraduate teaching within the School through a core team of academic, administrative, clerical and technical staff.

The courses are all research-led. You'll learn a combination of subject specific and transferable key skills. This means means that you'll be equipped to pursue a wide range of professional careers when you graduate.

Our research

A key feature of our programmes is exposure to research at the highest level. Our research institute's staff teach at all levels of our programmes. This means our degrees reflect the latest ideas and concepts in medical research.

You'll have the opportunity to be part of one of these research teams at some point in your university career. You can do a summer placement in a Research Institute, work as a part time laboratory assistant and join a team for your final year research project.
