Welcome to the School of Biomedical Sciences which is part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences here at Newcastle University.
The School has responsibility for 6 undergraduate programmes and additionally we offer a 4-year integrated Masters in Biomedical Science. We currently have approximately 1000 full-time registered undergraduate students within the School.
Our vision is to provide an outstanding learning and teaching environment in which all of our students are supported to achieve their maximum potential.
Undergraduate teaching within the School is well supported by a core team of academic staff, supported by dedicated teams of administrative, clerical and technical staff. The courses are all research-led and designed around a combination of subject specific areas and key skills, which means that you will be equipped to pursue a wide range of professional careers when you graduate.
A key feature of the programmes offered at Newcastle is that you will be exposed to research at the highest level. The staff who undertake cutting edge research in the various Research Institutes in Newcastle teach at all levels of our programmes ensuring that our degree programmes reflect the very latest ideas and concepts in medical research. In addition you will have the opportunity to be part of one of these research teams at some point in your university career, either through undertaking a summer placement in a Research Institute, working as a part time laboratory assistant or through your final year research project.
