‘Write a letter home’ competition for International Students

For most international students it is a big decision to move far away from home and family to study in the UK. This competition offers you the chance to share your experiences with students who are thinking about applying to Newcastle University and to tell them about what you have gained from your time here.

To enter the competition you need to write a letter, such that you might send to a parent, a friend or a teacher from home. You can talk about any aspect of your experience but here are some ideas to start you off:

  • Are you enjoying your time as student at Newcastle University?
  • What have been the biggest benefits for you of coming over here to study?
  • What have been the best things about your course?
  • Have you made new friends?
  • Have you joined any University societies or local groups?
  • How do you spend your spare time?
  • Have you done any travelling whilst you have been over here?
  • What is Newcastle like as a city?
  • Have there been any surprises?
  • What do you consider your greatest achievements since arriving in Newcastle?

All international students (non EU) registered in the School of Biomedical Sciences are eligible to enter this competition. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of £250. There will also be a number of runner-up prizes of £25.

This competition is now closed. The competition will be re-opened in March 2013.

You are welcome to view the previous winning letters which have been published on the school web site.
