My name is Hao Ming Kevin Cheung and I graduated with a first in Biomedical Sciences in 2009. During my final year of Biomedical Sciences I applied to study postgraduate medicine following my degree. This application was successful and I will be a first year medical student in September 2009.
One of the reasons why I choose to study biomedical sciences is due to the amount of topics and skills covered. This course has given me a very good and broad knowledge base and experiences, which I believe will help me in my medicine degree.
One of my particular favourite modules was human anatomy in second year. As this degree is mainly focused on the molecular theory, it was refreshing to be able to learn and observe bodily systems. The self-taught style of this module helped to further develop my skills in independent learning. This skill, along with revision, time keeping and organisation were developed throughout the course be means of exams, essays and deadlines. All these skills will be extremely beneficial for my next degree due to the fact I am going into the course with the necessary skills. Therefore, hopefully, this means that I will not be overwhelmed with work and exams, as I have already developed my own revision technique and style.
Additionally the friendly environment with both student and the majority of staff made studying at Newcastle University a joy. Also the fact that student views are taken seriously by virtue of the student/staff committee and by personal tutors meant that any concerns were addressed and dealt with. Overall I have greatly enjoyed my time spent in Newcastle University and would definitely recommend to any one considering a future in science.
