Pharmacological Sciences
BSc (Hons)
PhD, Oxford University
Having already undertaken some study in my home country of Iran
and completing an Access course I got an offer to study for BSc (Hons) Pharmacology
degree at Newcastle
University. Starting directly
from the second year of the course, I tried to catch up with the rest of the
class. Soon I found some of the modules very interesting and lectures were great
enough to inspire me to do extensive extra reading. It seemed a lot of studying
but it was all worth it at the end.
Modules like Pharmacogenetics,
Pharmacological Techniques and Anti-Cancer Drugs were among my favourites, primarily
because my lecturers were experienced scientists with a worldwide reputation
doing cutting edge research. Also the
lecture contents highlighted some of the major challenges in the field of drug
discovery and development. Enjoying my final year undergraduate research project,
I was determined to carry on with a research degree. While graduating from Newcastle
University in 2007, I was honoured
to be offered a PhD position at Oxford
University which was my
dream come true.
One of the main reasons
that keeps me recommending Newcastle University
to others is the fantastic support and helpful advice I received from my Tutor.
She was always there when I needed her and put me on track to achieve the best
scores, discuss any issues affecting my studies and solve any problems. It was
much more than I expected!
