Both home and international students on any of the undergraduate programmes offered by the School of Biomedical Sciences are eligible to apply to transfer to Medicine or Dentistry after their first year of study.
Students will be selected on the basis of academic performance in the first year, a personal statement and, if shortlisted, an interview. Transfer is into the first year of either the Medicine or Dentistry programme.
Please note that the scheme is very competitive. 99 students applied for transfer to Medicine in 2011/2012 . However, only 49 students met the criteria (75% minimum average across all three modules studied in semester 1 with no mark less than 65% in any one module). 14 were asked for interview and 6 students were given conditional offers (subject to an overall average of 75% for the year with no mark lower than 65% in any one module).
In dentistry, 22 students applied, 6 students were interviewed and 2 students were made conditional offers.
Applicants for transfer to both Medicine and Dentistry must have a UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) score.
