This degree allows you to combine your interest in the science of human health and disease with an appreciation of the principles of business and financial management. The programme is designed to produce graduates who combine a strong scientific knowledge with a sound business awareness, to equip them to work in a range of different roles relating to the biomedical industries. It provides a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the functioning of the human body with modules relating to how business organisations are managed.
In Stage 1 you are introduced to the basic sciences of cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology and physiology, together with the main issues of management theory and practice, organisational behaviour and accounting and finance.
Specialist topics studied in Stage 2 include human anatomy, clinical immunology, respiratory diseases and human resource management.
In Stage 3 you choose from advanced topics offered by research institutes including cancer biology and therapy, the genetics of common diseases and the biochemistry of chronic and nutrition related disease. You also learn about business strategy and innovation and develop your entrepreneurial skills by participating in the setting up and running of a real business.
