Graduating in 2010 with a first class honours degree in biomedical sciences felt incredibly momentous since it signified the end to three years of thoroughly enjoyable and interesting academic life. My decision to study at Newcastle can be attributed to the broad and fascinating choice of modules offered to me, and the first-class scientists whom I was taught and guided by.
I have been challenged and motivated to aim high and to reach my full potential, whilst being supported by fantastic lecturers, supervisors and heads of department. Throughout my degree I have always felt as though the school has been interested in the welfare and achievement of every student. A strong sense of community has been created which I feel very upset to be leaving behind, but also pleased and privileged to have been a part of.
The focus at Newcastle is always to be at the forefront of research which is challenging due to the fast pace with which science progresses. However, the school succeeds and manages to instil a passion and eagerness for science into each of its students.
To accompany the enormous wealth of knowledge and study skills gained; this degree has taught me invaluable life skills and has given me a strong feeling of ambition and enthusiasm for my future career. I decided to pursue a career in medicine in my first year of study at Newcastle. My application was supported and fostered with immense integrity by various members of staff at the school. In October I will begin the graduate entry medicine programme at Imperial College London; an enormous achievement for which I largely have the School of Biomedical Sciences to thank.
