Module information

This master’s level module aims to provide students with insights into how bioscience companies operate, the regulations and standards they work within and the factors that are considered when developing and maintaining a successful business. Speakers representing a variety of businesses from bioprocessing to bioscience software will provide presentations on how processes can be optimise, scaled up, diversified and developed within the framework of appropriate standards.

The module runs over a period of ten weeks on Wednesday afternoons and can be taken as a complete accredited module or students can attend individual sessions without any assessment or accreditation. This module is particularly appropriate for graduate process engineers and research scientists working in the broad sphere of the biotechnology sector.

Assessment

Multiple choice examination (10%), Optimisation or Diversification Plan (70%), Oral presentation of Optimisation or Diversification Plan (20%)

Entry requirements

Academic: The entry requirements will normally be a second-class Honours degree, or an international equivalent. Other equivalent qualifications and/or relevant industrial experience will be considered for entry.

Language: Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.
There are no academic requirements for attendance only.
