Dr Rory Morrison
Associate Clinical Researcher

Why did you choose Newcastle

Having graduated from the University of Dundee for my BMSc intercalated degree, and the University of Leeds for my medical degree, I wanted to continue a mix of both clinical and academic medicine throughout my foundation training and so returned to the North East. Newcastle allows more time for research (2 x 4 months) during the foundation period compared to other deaneries and so this, I hope, will enable me to engage with more complex research projects during my time in the musculoskeletal research laboratory, under the guidance of Professor McCaskie and Dr Birch.

What are your aspirations for your time on the Clinical Academic Training Path

As well as developing my generic research skills, I hope to understand how biomaterials can be engineered to influence MSC recruitment, multipotency, commitment and differentiation to cells of the osteoblast lineage, and how these could be used as a future tool for the treatment of early osteochondral defects.
