The Mini Medical School is a series of lectures designed to bring the world of Medical Science to life. The lectures run over six consecutive weeks in October – November, and also include a 3 hour practical session on one of the Saturdays.
The event is open to young people and members of the public from across the Region, and those who attend have the opportunity to hear lectures by prominent Consultants and Academics, giving them an insight into Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences and Psychology. Examples of previous lectures include: ‘Diagnosis – art, sciences or hunch?’, ‘Emergency Medicine’, ‘It’s all in the mind: The art and science of Psychiatry’, ‘What’s so artistic about the art of medicine?’, ‘Organ Transplantation: Pioneering to Routine?’.
Attendees can also apply to attend a practical session in one of the following disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences and Psychology. These sessions include activities such as filling teeth, CPR and testing for Diabetes, and give a taste of what life’s really like if you want to be a Doctor, Dentist.
