Modernising Scientific Careers: MSc Clinical Sciences

Overview

Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) is a key work programme within the Department of Health designed to ensure flexibility, sustainability and modern career pathways for the healthcare science workforce.  Within MSC, the main route for existing health professionals to develop their careers is the Scientist Training Programme.  This consists of a three-year part time Master of Science training programme, featuring a combination of taught elements, work-based learning and research projects.

Four organizations in the North East region have combined to develop programmes of study under the MSC scheme.

The four partners within the consortium are:

  • Newcastle University
  • Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • University of Sunderland
  • Northumbria University

The consortium draws upon each of its members for specialist contributions and support: specifically the Clinical Scientists, Consultants, Health Professionals, Clinical Networks, Departments and Facilities in each of the four partner organizations.
